A Little Crystal History
Some people may think crystal healing is a new-age thing. It has become more prevalent in recent years; however, our dear ancestors have used crystal healing since time began. The energy of Quartz crystals has been used for many thousands of years, with the first historical references to using crystals coming some 6,000 years ago from the Ancient Sumerians.
In Ancient times, several cultures used and recorded crystals, such as Egyptians, Chinese, Greeks, Japanese, Indians, and Romans. The most famous stories we have grown up with belong to the Ancient Egyptians. They loved their crystals, their favourites being Lapis Lazuli, Turquoise, Carnelian, Emerald, and Clear Quartz. They would use them for healing benefits and burying their dead to balance the Ba and Ka energies. Female royalty would also wear specific stones in jewellery to help with fertility and protection from all evil. Cleopatra used Lapis Lazuli as an eye shadow by crushing it into a powder, making it one of the most expensive makeups of its time.
Crystal use was also said to have been widespread on the legendary lost continents of Lemuria and Atlantis, where the highest priests and priestesses used them for various healing properties. The history of healing crystals is truly fascinating and inspiring. I encourage anyone starting their path into crystals to look a little deeper.
